Coastlines 2 exhibition features four local artists
A group of artists, four of whom are from Blairgowrie and the surrounding area, are currently exhibiting their work in St Andrews... writes Clare Damodaran.
Fusation’s latest exhibition ‘Coastlines 2’, features an eclectic mix of contemporary art and craft and will be at the Byre Theatre in the Fife town until Sunday, December 3.
Tricia Brown, Jan Miller, Maria Nordgren and Margaret Stanford are east Perthshire’s representatives at the exhibition.
Tricia Brown’s love of coastlines comes from a childhood near the sea in Africa where the waves were powerful, dramatic and beautiful. The sand, sea and sky colours in all their different moods are favourites of Tricia’s and along with interesting things found on the beaches are all conducive to a variety of mediums.
As a botanical illustrator this exhibition presents Jan Miller with the possibility of combining two of her obsessions, plants and the coast.
There is an abundance of plant life ranging from plants that grow on or near the beach to those that grow almost anywhere and Jan describes it as a privilge to be able to draw them.
Maria Nordgren grew up on the coast of the Baltic Sea in Sweden and coastal landscapes have always been a great inspiration for her ceramics.
Margaret Stanford is inspired by the patterns and colours, often unintentional, that are found in the natural and man-made world.
Her approach has been to concentrate on the hypnotic and rhythmic movements of the waves as they hide and reveal their treasures, coastal erosion and the natural patterns created.
‘Coastlines 2’ is open daily. Admission is free.
