Anger as Christmas tree vandalised
Local councillors have condemned an act of vandalism to the Christmas tree in the Wellmeadow on Saturday night.
The tree was organised for the town by Morag Young of Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council who is keen to reinstate some of the traditional features in the town’s calendar.
It was donated by Sholach Trees, moved and installed by a team of volunteers, decorated by Something Special Flowers, and the lights were donated by the Blair Hardware store.
However, overnight on Saturday, after the festive lights in the town were officially switchedon, the tree was vandalised.
Councillor Caroline Shiers said: “I was hugely disappointed to hear of vandalism to the beautiful tree.
“The community council did a great job organising it to be in the Wellmeadow.
“I will be meeting with the police in Blairgowrie this week and will discuss these ongoing incidences of vandalism with them.”
Councillor Tom McEwan added: “I am saddened and angry to hear that the community Christmas tree in the Wellmeadow was vandalised within 24 hours of being decorated and switched-on.
“The hard work from volunteers and the generosity of the donations from local businesses reflected a civic pride the vast majority in Blairgowrie and Rattray share and a joy shared by all those who attended the brilliant lights switch-on event .’’
