Hundreds flock to Cross in Coupar Angus

- Clare Damodaran

Hundreds of people turned out on Wednesday evening last week for the official switchon of Coupar Angus Christmas lights.

Those gathered enjoyed a whole host of entertainment organised by a small committee of local volunteers.

The festivities got under way with a parade from Coupar Angus Primary School to the Cross led by Elsa, Anna and Olaf from popular children’s film Frozen.

There were performances from Let’s Dance, music and singing from Wendy Mc, and stalls at the Cross, and the lights were switched on at 7pm.

One of the highlights of the evening was a visit from Santa, who joined in some festive singing with the crowd before delivering sweeties to around 170 excited children.

The Christmas lights committee has been fundraising throughout the year to put on the event for the local community.

Committee chair Rhianne Thomas said: “This event was all about the kids.

“It was another absolutely fantastic night.

“And, on behalf of the committee, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for coming along.

“There was a great turnout and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

“Thanks to the school for setting up the parade, all the volunteers on the night, and everyone who stood out in the rain all day on Wednesday putting everything up.

“A massive thanks also to Santa, Anna, Elsa and Olaf, Wendy Mc for compering the evening, the committee, Wendy McCombes for the soup, and Gala Rocks Promotions for all their hard work.” ● Photographs by Clare Damodaran
