Youth side set for trip to Camp Nou
Fundraising efforts for youngsters’ visit next year
The Blairgowrie 2006 football team, part of Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Football Club, held a Christmas fair in Blairgowrie Town Hall on Saturday, November 25.
Stalls at the fundraising event included Christmas decorations, gifts, cards, a Christmas hamper raffle, lucky square, homemade Christmas crafts, locally grown Christmas trees from Sholach Trees, cake and candy and face painting.
There was a good turnout at the fair, which is the second such event to be organised by the team.
The team have been raising funds throughout the year for a very special trip which will see 12 youngsters head off to Barcelona next spring.
The boys will be playing in a tournament against teams from all over Europe while they are there and will also go on a tour of Camp Nou - the home stadium of FC Barcelona - and visit the PortAdventura theme park.
Other activities that they have undertaken during the last year to raise funds for the trip have included hosting a footbal festival in September, a 60s and 70s disco, clubercise nights, bake sales and raffles and running a charity shop in the former Howes premises on Reform Street in Blairgowrie.
But the players only found out what the money they had been raising was going towards on Saturday evening at their annual prizegiving ceremony when they were presented with personalised t-shirts emblazoned with Barcelona 2018. Ian MacGregor coaches the team. He said: “It’s fair to say we had 12 very excited boys when we told them!
“It’s going to be an absolutely fantastic opportunity for the boys to play with youngsters from across Europe and will create some great childhood memories for them.
“It’s a great way to reward them for all their efforts both on and off the pitch as well.
“On behalf of everyone involved with the team I would like to thank Millard Consulting for sponsoring the festival, Fiona Edwards from Find Your Fit for running the clubercise nights, and everyone else who supported our fundraising efforts throughout the year.”
At the prizegiving, the following awards were presented:
Top goal scorer of the season - Harry Watson
Top goal scorer of the season - Robbie Watson
Goal of the season - Callum Cannon
Most improved defender - Cavan MacGregor Hat trick hero - Max Pol Playmaker - Peter Rutherford Parents’ player of the season - Archie Browning
Most improved player - Harley Macnaughton-Jones

They were all given achievement awards at the prizegiving and will be joining their former team mates on the Barcelona trip.
