Lights switch-on
There was a great turnout for the official switch-on of the Christmas lights in Meigle on Sunday afternoon.
Dozens of people joined in a sing-along of Christmas carols and songs led by Doris Scott and enjoyed festive refreshments including mince pies and shortbread donated and served by staff members from the Spar shop in the village.
The Spar also donated the village’s Christmas tree.
Santa made a guest appearance at the event and spoke to lots of very happy and excited children in the village.
Doris said: “On behalf of everyone I would like to say a big thank you to Iain Doig, Colin Douglas and Ali Napier for putting up the tree and getting the lights in place this year.
“And thanks to the pupils from Meigle Primary School who all made decorations for the tree.”
“Thanks also to the Spar for the tree, refreshments and gifts.
“And thank you to everyone who came along and supported this event.”
Clare Narey is the area manager for Spar.
She said: “We were delighted to support the local community by donating the tree, refreshments and gifts for the Christmas lights switch-on.
“We were able to do it through our carrier bag charity scheme. Staff members in stores choose which local charity they would like to support.
“This year, the staff in Meigle chose to support this fantastic community event once again.”
