Local SWI meetings round-up
Burrelton and Woodside
President Irene Smith welcomed everyone to the meeting. After business was over she introduced Jackie Bird of Jackie’s Gems who demonstrated on how to make braclets, and after which those gathered got to make their own. Competition results: jar of chutney - 1 C Pickthall, 2 M Gordon, 3 K Pirie; Knitted article incorporating beads - 1 M McFarlane; flower of the month - W Stewart.
Clunie At the November meeting David Rosier spoke about ancient Chinese fabrics from different historical periods and showed some beautiful samples. Competition results: bloom of the month - 1 M Webster, 2 M Morrison; teacup and saucer - 1 D Plummer, 2 A Andrew, 3 M Morrison.
Glenisla President Hilary Lawrence welcomed members and friends to their November meeting. She then introduced Sheelagh Cameron and Linda Sinclair, and Sheelagh treated members to a fully clothed back massage while Linda gave members an insight into her hand reflexology. Jill Redpath gave a vote of thanks. Competition results: three cheese straws - 1 Kathleen Davidson, 2 Barbara Wells; a bookmark in any craft - 1 Barbara Wells, 2 Kathleen Davidson; flower of the month Hilary Lawrence.
Kilry President Isobel Buick welcomed Stuart Mackie, a lawyer who gave a very enlightening talk on pensions rights for the elderly and the importance of making wills. Competition results: carrot and coriander soup - 1 Margaret Darroch, 2 Isobel Buick, 3 Elma Kydd; calendar – 1 Isobel Buick, 2 Margaret Darroch, 3 Pat Donaldson. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all who attended.
Kinloch President Elspeth Campbell welcomed members to the meeting on Tuesday, November 7, in Kinloch Hall. The “in-house entertainment” consisted of six rounds of very noisy, lighthearted whist and adult colouring in. The whist was won by Heather Macfarlane and Kate Imlay with the booby prize going to Ina Robertson and Lesley Evans. Competition results: three Highlander biscuits - 1 Lesley Evans, 2 Elspeth Campbell, 3 Sheena Donald; sewn Dorothy bag - 1 Lesley Evans, 2 Janice Shepherd, 3 Elspeth Campbell; flower of the month - Ella Neill.
Meigle Catherine Ritchie welcomed Pauline and Jack from the For Art Sake studio in Scone to the meeting in Meigle Church Hall. Pauline and Jack brought along ceramic Christmas tree decorations for those in attendance to paint and decorate. The vote of thanks was given by Catherine Ritchie. Competition results: winter scene picture - 1 Catherine Ritchie, 2 Suzanne Liston; flower of the month - 1 Catherine Ritchie, 2 Maureen Milne, 3 Suzanne Liston. Hostesses for the meeting were Ethel Douglas and Gerry McNiven.
Rattray President Muriel Brown welcomed all members, new members, and visitors to the November meeting. PC Alistair Crowe from PoliceScotland was introduced as the speaker for the evening. He gave a very informative talk on online scams and how to be as secure as possible when using the internet and social media. Elaine Anderson thanked PC Crowe for giving an insight into remaining safe and secure whilst online. Joyce Smith judged the baking competition for the Smith Trophy. Competition results: an apple plate pie - 1 Muriel Brown, 2 Lesley Howkins, 3 Ann Simpson; security tip - 1 Jacqueline Edwards and Ann Simpson, 3 Fiona Ness; flower of the month - Ann Simpson. Muriel thanked everyone for attending.
Silvie and Ruthven President Joy Reid welcomed everyone and after the formal business was discussed Joy introduced Pat Duffy. Pat demonstrated wrapping gifts for all occasions and made boxes for small and unusual gifts. Hostess for the evening was Dorothy Anderson. Competition results: small jar of lemon curd - 1 Ann Cocker, 2 Helen Urquhart, 3 Margaret Bruce; favourite bracelet - 1 Emma Robertson, 2 Joy Reid, 3 Dorothy Anderson; flower of the month - 1 Brenda Clark, 2 Joy Reid, 3 Ann Cocker.
