PANTO TIME
The stage is set for this year’s panto by the Blairgowrie Players – Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves – which opens tonight, (Wednesday, December 6), for a five-day run in Blairgowrie Town Hall.
Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves will be presented on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week at 7pm and there will be two matinee performances at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves was originally a folk tale and is included in many versions of the 1001 Nights.
It is one of the most familiar of the Arabian Night tales and tells the story of two brothers, Ali Baba and Cassim, greed and a great deal of treasure.
The original story is full of gore and violence, but the Players’panto version sticks to the main part of the story without the blood and gore and adds a humorous, light-hearted approach with a happy ending.
President of the Blairgowrie Players, Graham Reid, said that the performances were the culmination of three months of hard work, costume making, set building and rehearsals .
He added that the show was great fun with lots of music and entertainment and encouraged everyone to come along. Tickets for the show cost £8 or £6 for concessions, which are only available for the stalls, and can be bought at The Card Gallery on Allan Street in Blairgowrie, by calling 01250 876444, or online at blairplayers@btinternet. com.
