Back with a bang after short break in season

-

McQuat were all on the scoresheet during the opening half.

Blairgowrie dominated in both the scrum and the lineout, winning the opposition ball. This allowed the Blair backline to make full use of the ball with some notable strong running and good decision making by experienced centre Bissett and some pinpoint precision kicking by the always cheerful stand-off Murray Ormiston.

The forwards also performed well, with Grieve and Josh Quay regularly making ground, and at half-time the score was 43 points to nil.

Blair started the second half with the same vigour, with two tries in quick succession from Stephen Souter and Finlay Ormiston.

Next to score was young Ollie Moore, a former player with the Blairgowrie Rams youth team who was making his debut for the Blairgowrie first team.

Kyle MacKinnon then scored after David Malloch had been tackled just short of the line following some powerful running by him.

Credit however has to be given to Carnoustie after they rallied and put Blairgowrie under some sustained pressure for a period of time and scored a well-deserved consolation try.

Blair responded with scrum half Rory Grant taking a quick tap penalty from his own 22, taking advantage of the broken defence to make his way up the pitch, eventually scoring under the posts.

This was followed by a Murray Ormiston try which was to be the last of the game.

Peter Duncan praised the team for their efforts describing it as a great team performance with everyone playing well and staking a claim for a starting place in the squad.

This week’s points went to McQuat and Bissett who received one point each, and McLaren who secured two points. Three points and man of the match were awarded to Fraser Black for another fantastic standout performance.
