Appeal for ideas for 35th milestone

- Clare Damodaran

Organisers of the annual New Year’s Day Fun Run and Walk are appealing to past participants and members of the public to come forward with ideas of how they think the 35th anniversary of the event should be marked.

The fun run has taken place on New Year’s Day every year for 34 years, and organisers are keen to mark the event’s milestone 35th anniversary in some way. Bob Ellis is one of the organisers. He said: “We would like to hear from anyone, either members of the local community or people who have taken part in the fun run or the walk since it started, to contact us with any ideas they may have about how we can mark our 35th event on January 1, 2019.

“The first race was held in 1984 so maybe we should encourage people to dress up in 80s gear, or even just fancy dress.

“In anniversary terms, 35 years is an emerald anniversary, so perhaps everyone taking part should wear something green.

“To mark the millennium in 2000 we held a special 2000m race before the fun run, and maybe we could look to do something along those lines again.

“Or we could have a special anniversary breakfast.

“Whatever your idea, we would love to hear from you and we will ensure that we pull out all the stops to make it a memorable day.”

Anyone who has any ideas can email Bob on bob.ellis2@btinternet.com
