17 pay phones at risk in area

-

BT is proposing to get rid of 17 pay phones across Perth and Kinross - including two in east Perthshire.

Perth and Kinross Council has been notified by BT that 17 phones in the region are “not being used enough”to warrant keeping them active.

And a 90-day consultation period has now started to allow communities to have their view on the proposals.

The phones being considered for removal in east Perthshire are located on the High Street in Blairgowrie and in George Square in Coupar Angus.

The 90-day consultation period finishes on September 27.

Local residents are being asked to make their views known through the local authority by September 13.

Comments can be submitted to Perth and Kinross Council by emailing developmentmanagement@ pkc.gov.uk.

Communities can take on a phonebox for just £1 if they wish.

Former phone boxes can be used for community purposes such as a library/ book exchange as in Strathardle, housing a defibrillator as in Alyth, or a food larder.
