Popular shop set to return
Booklore, the second-hand bookshop on Upper Mill Street in Blairgowrie, will re-open to the public from Tuesday this week.
And those behind the shop, which is also the customer-facing part of Blairgowrie and Rattray Development Trust (BRDT), are appealing for volunteers to help out. Stuart Nichol is chair of BRDT. He said:“The One Voice/Booklore shop has been re-organised during the lockdown period to reflect not just the new social distancing requirements but also the wider scope the shop has.
“It is increasingly becoming an information point for the town, and we have recently obtained iKnow status from VisitScotland, so we will be a tourist information hub as well as a second-hand bookshop and office.
“The Booklore shop is the customer-facing part of the trust and following our move from our former premises on Meadow Place we have taken a lease on an office in Signal Box Road which is ideal for our meetings and admin support.
“However, the trust has been able to continue throughout the pandemic by home-working which will continue for some time yet.”
He added:“Following the enforced break, everyone involved in Booklore is excited to be up and running once more.
“We plan to collaborate with fellow book-lovers to enhance the opportunity to use people’s love of reading to put books firmly on the map as an attraction in Blairgowrie and Rattray.
“To this end, we will be actively working with the BOOKMARK festival, Adventures into Books, and of course Blairgowrie Library.
“Booklore is run entirely by volunteers and any surplus income received is set aside to fund community projects in the town.
“If anyone fancies volunteering for a couple of hours a week, please, please get in touch. It’s good fun.”
The free home delivery service started by Booklore is currently suspended but under review.
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Stuart on 01250 873935 or 07904 857039 or by emailing stuart.nichol2@btinternet. com
Booklore will be open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am-4pm.
