This Morning presenter joins walking group
A TELEVISION presenter paid a special visit to the Borders recently to feature some of the great walks the area has to offer.
As part of This Morning’s Get Britain Walking segment on ITV, Jeff Brazier joined members of the Paths For All Walk It group on the Three Bridges Walk along the Tweed at Peebles.
Brazier was invited to join the group by walk leader Charlie Sim, who said he was delighted to welcome him to the town.
Mr Sim added: “One of the reasons I got involved in this walk is because my wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and got a lot of help and support from the community and the NHS.
“I just thought ‘what can I do to give back?’
“When I came along [to the group], everybody here was so supportive.”
Brazier also enjoyed a chat with Denise Carmichael, from Walk It Scottish Borders, during the segment, which aired on the ITV show on Friday, March 29.
When asked what benefits people get from signing up to take part in the walks, Ms Carmichael replied: “I think a huge part of it is the physical activity.
“But we kind of hide it, because people really enjoy coming along. There’s social time, there’s a cuppa at the end, people make connections.
“So, it’s good for physical activity, mental health, and social connectedness.”
Ms Carmichael also shared impressive figures which show that, in the last year, around 11,000 people had joined a Walk It group in the Borders.
Brazier and Mr Sim then took a brief walk near Cademuir Hill before making a stop at UK World Chocolate Master Ruth Hinks’ shop and café, Cocoa Black, to warm up.
