GOOD VALUE

Plenty to enjoy as the Sanigars deliver another quality bill

- Gareth Jones

LOCAL boy Dan Sarkozi thrilled a packed house at Ashton Gate as he held off determined Yorkshireman Danny Little in the six-threes main event. Sarkozi controlled things with his jab early on, but the bull-like Little made the house fighter work for referee Lee Cook’s 59-56 vote.

The rest of the bill comprised generally competitive four-threes.

Skilful Frome super-feather Ryan Wheeler dazzled Leicester soldier Lewis Jones with his footwork and variety of punch, but, alas, lacks power. Mr Cook went for 40-36.

There was some excellent boxing, too, from Taunton-based Pole Pawel August, Mr Cook scoring 40-36 from ringside as triallist ref Lee Every did the legwork. The tall, upright August dominated squat Derby journeyman Elvis Dube, who could never get close.

There was another 40-36, this time from Kieran Mccann, as popular Bristol super-feather Duane Winters outworked Hayes trier Inderpreet Gill, while the same official gave a 39-37 nod to Weston’s Liam Hunt over the taller Rob Brown, from Wiltshire.

City boy Tim Cutler extended his winning run by 39-37 over Stockport’s game Jamie Quinn,

Mr Mccann doing the maths for Mr Every.

Two first-timers overcame late substitutes from Wales. Torquay’s Nathan Halton

found things straightforward against unambitious Aberystwyth veteran Jamie Ambler, Mr Cook recording 40-37 as Mr Every controlled the action.

But former Welsh amateur champion Kieran Gething came out blasting against Bristolian Aaron Sutton, who did well to keep cool and use his reach. Mr Mclean favoured him by 39-38; the Pontypool man looked unlucky not to get at least a draw.

The one reverse for the Sanigar camp came in the opener, when Latvian import Reinis Porozovs

unleashed a second-round assault which left local Lee Nutland

forced to quit at the end of the session with a suspected broken jaw. Mr Cook was in charge.

THE VERDICT Good show, as the punters go home happy.
