THE latest Goodwins promotion at York Hall was called Bethnal Bedlam and certainly produced plenty of entertaini­ng action for the large crowd.

Of the three 10-rounders, interest centred on the gruelling English welterweig­ht title affair between John O’donnell (Shepherds Bush) and Stoke Newington Erick Ochieng, won by the former on a split but deserved points decision.

Marcus Mcdonnell (for Ochieng) and Robert Williams (for O’donnell) both scored 96-94 with Lee Cook’s slightly-toowide 97-93 O’donnell swinging it for the former Commonweal­th king, who boxed from round four with a nasty cut on his right eye (the same incident cut Ochieng less badly on his forehead).

Generally, O’donnell was effective when he moved and used his skills, but Ochieng’s aggression when he got inside won him rounds and left the fight all square coming up for the ninth. But then
