‘THE BLACK RHINO’ IS CAGED
FORMER heavyweight contender Clifford Etienne was sentenced to 64 years in prison after being convicted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, of armed robbery, attempted carjacking, seconddegree kidnapping, attempted second-degree murder and attempted manslaughter.
“The Black Rhino” spent most of his 20s in jail before he established himself as a contender at the turn of the century, defeating the likes of Lamon Brewster and Lawrence Clay Bey.
He was exposed somewhat in 2001, when he was stopped by Fres Oquendo, but he rebounded to draw with Frans Botha, and secure a sizeable payday against the comebacking Mike Tyson in 2003.
Etienne was demolished in 49 seconds in Tyson’s last victory, but trundled on until two losses in 2005 ended his career.
