BUNCE’S BIG FAT BOOK
ONE of the finest storytellers in British boxing, Steve Bunce, is at Fitzroy Lodge Boxing Club to launch his latest book, Bunce’s Big Fat Short History of British Boxing
Bunce - who is said to have written “millions and millions” of words on the sport - has produced an exhaustive yet typically enthralling account of British boxing since 1970.
“There are nearly 1,300 boxing names in the book,” Bunce tells Boxing News. “Some never had a fight after the age of 16, others had hundreds and some just vanished. There are a dozen Henry Rhineys for every John Conteh and a dozen Harry Grivers for every Terry Lawless. There are so many lost, forgotten and ignored fighters from the 70s – there are just far too many, to tell the truth, from the 80s and 90s. It was important to try and get as many boxers in as possible. It’s not just the boxers and their stories that are in danger of being lost forever – I have also tried to resurrect some old names, trainers, managers, hangers-on and fight faces.”
Bunce’s book comes highly recommended and is available now.
