BIRMINGHAM boxer Niall Farrell is the new England Boxing Elite champion this year at flyweight. He was impressive against Blane Hyland in a good close final (see page 40) and along the way he beat Timperley’s Michael Mulvey and Middlesbrough’s tricky Muzi Fuyuna.

He takes his place among the country’s top boxers at 52kgs, a richly competitive division. Farrell wants a shot at Will Cawley, who won the same title last year, a slick mover, who is also on the GB squad. Cawley has just had his first bout in the World Series of Boxing [see page 42].

To confirm the talent Britain has at its disposal at flyweight, the likes of Farrell, Hyland and Cawley will all be chasing Muhammad Ali, young himself and now a seasoned international boxer.
