60-SECOND INTERVIEW
Paul Wheeler talks to one of Mayweather’s men
‘JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ LEFT EVERYTHING IN THE RING EVERY TIME THAT HE FOUGHT’
When and why you started boxing:
I was only four years old when I first started. My father was a boxer, so he taught me all the techniques that I needed to know in order to succeed in the sport.
Favourite all-time fighter:
Of course, it’d have to be Julio Cesar Chavez. He left everything in the ring every time that he fought, and he proudly represented Mexico.
Best fight you’ve seen:
The first Julio Cesar Chavezmeldrick Taylor fight.
Personal career highlight:
Being signed to Mayweather Promotions and meeting Floyd Mayweather.
Toughest opponent:
Francisco Reyes [w rsf 3], who I fought in my second pro bout. He had been a good amateur fighter.
Best and worst attributes as a boxer:
Being versatile is my strong point. As for my weaknesses, you’ll have to tell me!
Training tip:
Train hard, listen and sacrifice. You need to be able to take criticism on board and learn from it.
Favourite meal/restaurant:
I love Thai food and, of course, my Mexican food.
Best friends in boxing:
My team – Emiliano “Mili” Robles, Anthony “Tony G” Gallegos and Floyd “Money” Mayweather.
Other sportsman you would like to be:
As well as boxing, I like soccer a lot, because it’s a contact sport. I enjoy [American] football too.
Last film/tv show you saw:
[Superhero movie] Suicide Squad.
Who would play you in a film of your life:
Keanu Reeves.
Have you ever been starstruck:
I was starstruck when I met Floyd [Mayweather]. I’m sure when I end up meeting Julio [Cesar Chavez] it’ll be the same too.
Last time you cried:
When my grandfather passed away last year.
Best advice received:
To put God first, trust my team and always be loyal.
Worst rumour about yourself:
The worst thing I’ve heard about me is that I’m a ladies’ man. It’s not true, as I’m a one-woman type of person.
Something not many people know about you:
I love to dance.
‘MY FATHER TAUGHT ME ALL THE TECHNIQUES THAT I NEEDED TO SUCCEED’
‘THE WORST THING I’VE HEARD ABOUT ME IS THAT I’M A LADIES’ MAN. IT’S NOT TRUE’
