DENNY DOES IT

Tyler grinds out a tough points win over Fox

- Matthew Bozeat

ROWLEY REGIS middleweight portsider Tyler Denny ground out an eight-round points win over Anthony Fox at The Venue. Referee-for-the-night Terry O’connor scored the hard, honest bout 78-75. Denny boxed his way into a points lead, then toughed it out in the sixth and seventh before finishing strongly, driving Westbury’s Fox to the ropes in the closing 30 seconds with a twofisted salvo.

Polish heavy Krzysztof Kosela was a late addition to Les Allen Jnr’s show, and he had his hands full with Stockport southpaw

Chris Healey over six. Kosela needed a big finish to make sure of the 58-56 points verdict, cutting Healey on his left eye in the last.

Leicester’s CJ Challenger took a couple of rounds to find his range against Leeds’ David Zubrzycki, then hurt him with a long right hand in the third of a scheduled four, and blasted him to his knees. Zubrzycki was up at ‘eight,’ but Mr O’connor waved it off. Time was 1-32.

Mr O’connor also called a halt to the slated four between Dudley’s Les Byfield and Leeds’

Russ Midgley after 2-14 of the third, with Midgley under fire on the ropes.

Birmingham’s heavily tattooed

Kane Baker was a 39-38 points winner over Driffield’s Danny Little after a sometimes-messy four, and there were wins for

Shaun Cooper and debutant

Kaisee Benjamin, both from Birmingham’s Eastside gym.

Cooper was busy and showed a good repertoire of punches in his shutout points win over Hull’s Luke Fash over four, while debutant Benjamin knocked out Derry-born Paul Cummings at 1-17 of the second (set for four). Benjamin dropped Warminster’s Cummings in a heap with a right hand to the jaw. Cummings got to his feet just as Mr O’connor’s count reached ‘10.’
