CINTRON SUFFERS KO

-

SATURDAY June 24, 2017

FORMER world welterweight champion Kermit Cintron is brutally knocked out in five rounds by Tyrone Brunson in a standout super-welterweight contest in Philadelphia.

In March, 37-year-old Cintron was dropped by David Grayton before scraping a technical draw after an accidental clash of heads.

Headlining at the 2300 Arena, not far from his home in Reading, Cintron is well-matched with Brunson, with not much between them heading into the fourth round.

Cintron drops Brunson twice in the fourth and looks to be on his way to victory.

However, the 32-year-old hometown favourite shows remarkable powers of recuperation and steamrolls into Cintron in the next stanza, dropping him three times, prompting referee Shawn Clark to wave the bout off at 1-21.

Elsewhere on the show, superlightweight prospect Victor Vazquez continues his rise with a convincing six-round decision over

Anthony Burgin.

Vazquez drops Burgin in the second with a body shot, before earning scores of 58-55 twice and 57-56.

Steven Ortiz outpoints fellow unbeaten lightweight Tyrome Jones further down the bill, registering two knockdowns.
