LEBA MOURNS THREE MEMBERS SAD NEWS of the deaths of three prominent London EBA (LEBA) members.

Hyman Kern passed away in April, aged 85. Boxing out of Clapton, he had 12 pro bouts in 1952-53. Later he ran a taxi firm with a fleet of 30 cabs.

John Micallef, affectiona­tely known as “Maltese John”, died on April 29. As a young man he played guitar around London’s West End clubs and in the USA. John was a regular at York Hall pro shows and a familiar face at London’s Peacock Gym. He was a LEBA member for around 25 years.

Jimmy Clegg, who was 90, was best known at LEBA meetings for handing out the monthly Seconds Out newsletter for over 30 years. He was a popular vocalist and MC at north and east London’s ‘music’ pubs. Jim’s dedication earned him an award for services to LEBA.
