CHARITABLE CHARLIE

BRITISH super-flyweight champion Charlie Edwards’ activities outside of the ring should be commended. This young man does so much for local causes, and never asks for a penny in expenses. He gives away all of his fight-worn clothing to be auctioned, and visits amateur gyms to train the juniors. He always stays until everyone has had an autograph and photo taken with him and his Lonsdale Belt. Fitzroy Lodge ABC, Epsom and Ewell ABC, Gauntlett Boxing Club, Rosehill ABC – he turns nothing down. What a pleasure it is to see a young man who’s so proud to be British champion, and who gives something back to the community – inspiring all the kids he visits in the gyms. He’s a real inspiration to fighters and people everywhere. Tony Roberts

HORN DESERVED THE WIN

I AM a huge fan of Manny Pacquiao, but I think Jeff Horn deserved the win against him. Too much emphasis seems to have been put on round nine by those who believe Pacquiao deserved to win. Yes, Horn looked done for in that round, and the ref could have stopped it. However, the fact is that he didn’t stop it. Therefore, you have to judge the fight overall, and not just by one round.

Horn seemed to fight like Marcos Maidana in his first fight against Floyd Mayweather – roughing the favorite up and being a bit dirty tactically. The difference is, Manny seems to have grown old, whereas Floyd has aged better. To me, Horn definitely deserved the win, and well done to him, as no one thought he had a chance beforehand. The question now is, how good is he? Will he go on to join pound-for-pound lists, or does he just happen to be Manny’s Grover Wiley? Leighton J Rees, Swansea

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

HATS off to Channel 5 for broadcasting the fantastic scrap between Josh Taylor and Ohara Davies. The fight was a real 50-50, but Taylor’s skill and punch variety proved to be too much for Davies. Every round was exciting – the action was back and forth. Hopefully after this classic we’ll see Taylor versus Ricky Burns next. But hats off again to Channel 5. Currently, boxing fans are being asked far too often to dig deep for pay-per-view events, so being able to watch this great fight on free-to-air TV was a breath of fresh air. Patch Hammond, Norwich

LEE THE LIONHEART

WHAT a warrior we have in Lee Selby. Not only did he go ahead with his IBF featherweight title defence under tragic circumstances following the death of his mother, he managed to come through with a magnificent win. Lee, we are all very proud of you Cyril Jones-evans, Pwllheli
