FURY TEASES RETIREMENT
SUNDAY July 16, 2017
FORMER world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury drops another big hint that he may retire from the sport for good.
The 28-year-old has not fought since his stunning win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.
Since then he has battled personal issues, including mental illness and substance abuse, and admits people should focus on active fighters rather than him particularly if he never fights again.
“I don’t like talking about myself anymore, especially [now] that I’m not involved in boxing,” he tells Boxnation.
“I’ve not been involved in the sport for nearly two years, so I don’t think it’s fair to try and dampen the [other] lads as it’s their big time to shine. “My time was two years ago.” Fury had previously claimed he is definitely making a comeback, but now claims motivation is an issue.
“If I come back there will be an announcement, but if I don’t then goodbye,” he adds.
“For this game, you’ve got to really love it and want it – you’ve got to be very, very hungry.
“I’m undefeated – second in history of heavyweight champions to retire unbeaten behind Rocky Marciano.
“I’ve unified the full division, beat the man who couldn’t be beaten – do I need to do any more?”
