English duo scoop gold at European Schoolboys championsh­ips

ENGLAND won two gold medals in the European Schoolboys championsh­ips in Valcea, Romania. Tommy Coyle, at 40kgs, and Barney Royston, at 43kgs, both triumphed in their finals on July 25. In a close bout with Ukraine’s

Abduraimov Aider Coyle took a unanimous decision. Royston took on the muscular challenge of Russian Kurganov Dmitrii. Barney worked to keep him on the end of his jab and took a split decision.

Kyle Parr and Jake Abrol both won silvers. “A fantastic performanc­e by England, who have proven they can compete confidentl­y against the toughest nations,” said team manager Ivan Cobb.
