JACK BISHOP, R.I.P THE respected Southampton trainer Jack Bishop has died aged 94. Bishop kept pro boxing alive in Southampton for almost three decades, promoting shows plus managing and training many champions.

An ex-royal Marine and World War II veteran, Jack had his first contest as a boy in 1933. He was awarded the BEM in the Queen’s Honours list in 2014. Despite his advanced years, he still made regular visits to his gym in Captain’s Place, Southampton. Jack will be missed by many. WELSH EBA REUNION THE annual Welsh EBA reunion at Taff’s Well on September 3 was another roaring success. Large groups from Brighton, Hastings, Leicester, Home Counties, London, Torquay, Bournemouth and Plymouth EBAS attended, as did numerous ex-world, European, British and Commonwealth champions. The venue was packed to capacity.
