DECISIONS NEED TO BE CHALLENGED

-

I’VE been a fan of boxing almost my entire life, but I’ve got to say I’m very quickly losing interest following yet another instance of absolute joke scoring in the Canelogolovkin fight. I admire both fighters greatly, but what happened in Las Vegas was an insult to both of them, and to the paying public. Canelo lost the fight – everyone knows it. Following the farce of Mayweather-mcgregor, we needed Canelo-golovkin to be as honest as it gets, yet we’ve all been let down. No blame can be levelled at Canelo, but Golovkin is the one that I feel really sorry for. It won’t be long before we get a boxer like Golovkin turning their back on the sport because of this type of stitchup. Bad decisions need to be challenged. Robin Clementson, Surrey

FIASCO OF A RESULT

A KICK in the teeth for fight fans! How can the clear points win for “GGG” over Canelo be called a draw? This was an even more cynical money-making exercise than Mayweather-mcgregor. It’s obvious that for some, the result was important to justify a return fight. One judge had Canelo as a clear winner. Was that judge his mother? A great fight was marred by officials who decided that the winner did not win. The sport of boxing was damaged by this fiasco of a result. For this fan, there is a suspicion that brown paper bags were involved! Max Winberg, Gerrards Cross

IN THE MINORITY

I MIGHT be in the minority, but I had Canelo winning a very tight fight against Golovkin. Obviously, the ridiculous 118-110 scorecard in Canelo’s favour was atrocious, but is a draw really that bad? I know “GGG” was pushing the fight constantly, but Canelo was landing superb combinations, and how Golovkin walked through these shots is remarkable! But also Canelo took “GGG’S” shots, which is equally remarkable. Patch Hammond, Norwich

THE FINAL STRAW

LET the world know that one of the most avid boxing enthusiasts you will ever see is done with boxing forever. The Canelogolovkin decision was the final straw for me. When one man so obviously whips another, yet a judge scores it 118-110 for the one who got whipped, then it’s time to move on. Bye boxing. William Oppman

DRAINING THE SWAMP

THE Canelo-golovkin result is far more serious than just a close, controversial decision, as there is at best incompetence involved, but also the distinct possibility of corruption. There is little hope of the swamp being drained in the near future. Paul Wakefield
