CLEAN SWEEP

Home wins all round, as Kerr outpoints Grannum

-

GLASGOW’S Marc Kerr, switching his attacks nicely between head and body, and working at quite a pace, made it 10 wins out of 11 in front of a decent crowd at the Lagoon Leisure Centre. Despite Islington’s

Jordan Grannum making a better fist of it in the closing stages, the Glaswegian – in control from the outset – never looked like letting things slip. A 59-56 victory was Kerr’s reward at the finish.

Another middleweight victorious over six against London opposition was Dundee southpaw Paul Kean, who took every session to leave Southwark-based Italian Victor Edagha – who was down twice with neither being ruled a knockdown – on the recieving end for the 22nd consecutive time.

Six-footer Kean had beaten the aforementioned Grannum 40-36 last time out.

Barcelona-based Nicaraguan Rafael Castillo is a regular in British rings, and while never seeing his arm raised at the finish he has never been halted as early as the second round before. That was the case though in his bout against Cambuslang’s Jordan Mccorry. A cut above the eye – the ringside doctor deeming too bad for him to continue – proved Castillo’s undoing, and handed “Jordy” his 14th career victory.

Johnstone southpaw Stefan Sanderson, back punching for pay for the first time in 16 months, had to work with just one hand for part of his bout against Jan Balog of the Czech Republic.

Sanderson’s left shoulder seemingly popped out in the second session and then back in again, before he went on to hand the visitor a 39-37 beating.

Ayr first-timer Calvin Mccord – a beaten finalist at 60kgs in last year’s GB championships, and whose brother Martin also boxed professionally – made a winning start to life in the paid ranks by outpointing Blackburn’s Naheem Chaudhry in a one-sided fourrounder.

THE VERDICT A show hit by late changes and withdrawals still proves entertaining.
