STATE OF THE ART

-

FORMER pro Charlie Rumbol Jnr fulfilled a lifelong dream in June this year when he opened the doors to Kent Gloves Boxing Club. Alongside business partner and friend David Shepherd, Charlie has managed to build a state-of-the-art boxing gym in Gillingham.

Spread out over two floors, the gym has a full-size competition boxing ring, a separate training ring, 11 punchbags, as well as various striking equipment such as Focusmasters, Boxmasters, Sparbars and Aqua punchbags, and a strength and conditioning area.

Kent Gloves offers the full range of boxing and boxing-based classes from amateur through to professional. Currently Rumbol – who comes from a strong boxing background – has two pros working under his guidance at the gym: super-middleweight pair Charlie Shane (5-0) and Oli Edwards (6-0).

Rumbol opened the gym with a view to building a strong amateur squad that will produce future pro stars. He is also looking to add more pros to his team, with the aim of helping them develop and improve.

With his new facility, Rumbol feels that he is certainly able to cater for the needs of any boxer up to the elite level. With nearby transport links to London and Europe, Rumbol and his team of coaches also hope to attract overseas fighters who are training for upcoming fights in the UK. Any pros who are interested in training at the Kent Gloves gym should contact Charlie Rumbol or Simon Gildea on 01634 841 049.
