BOXING returned to the City West Hotel with this five-bout offering from new promoter Stephen Kavanagh, the result being a clean sweep of points successes for the home boxers – all but one of whom are in the very embryonic stages of their careers.

Most experienced of those home fighters, with a grand total of seven contests in his locker, was Dubliner Sean Creagh. With his 29th birthday just a week or so away, he secured a seventh career win by outpointing game 21-year-old Hungarian Ferenc Jarko 59-55.

The visitor, having turned pro just nine months earlier, was boxing on the island of Ireland for the third time, having previously lost out to both Lewis Crocker and Stephen Carroll.

A pair of 40-35 wins were picked up by one-fight novices Craig Mccarthy and Liam

Gaynor. Waterford’s Mccarthy outclassed Poland’s Michal Ciach, who was sent sprawling in the final stanza. Meanwhile, Dublin’s Gaynor notched his second victory too. His opponent, another Pole in the guise of the oft-spoiling Krzysztof Rogowski, lost a point along the way for holding.

Kildare’s Chris Mullally came out on top at the end of what proved an entertaining four-rounder against Ireland-based Dominican Manny Bique, the score reading 39-37. Moldova-born Victor Rabei, now operating out of Ireland, triumphed by the exact same score at the conclusion of his four against Polish trier Damian Lawniczak, who put in a decent enough shift.

Cillian Reardon will have to wait to make his paid bow after having his proposed contest shelved at the 11th hour.

THE VERDICT Trainer-turned-promoter Kavanagh will be happy with the good turnout in the Irish capital.
