New stars in action on all-female show

LONDON Boxing supported the
This Girl Can Box! Programme by staging an all-female show at the Community Sports Centre, and an enjoyable time was had by all who turned out on a cold afternoon.
Competition from other shows and squads cut the planned number of bouts from 30 to 17 but overall the standard was pretty good, starting with the Southern Area 57 kgs belt contest between Haringey’s Amy Andrew and
Charlie Hann (Kent Gloves). Both battled hard throughout the full nine minutes but Andrew was always doing the more eyecatching work, especially with the right cross. One of those brought Hann a count early in the last but she plugged away gamely until the final bell where Andrew was rewarded with a unanimous decision.
There were three other 3 x 3s bouts. Two ended unanimously with the tall and rangy Ramla Ali (Nemesis) using her skills to hold off strong and aggressive Nikki Arthur (Manx), while Bury’s Sarh Dunne survived a second-round, right-hand knockdown to outwork
Xian Blackman-price (Heart of Portsmouth).
Closing the show was the split decision earned by Far Cotton’s
Laura Stevens, who took the fight to Dee Allen (Haringey) throughout, denying her time and space to work while also enjoying success with solid single blows.
Among the younger ages there was a cracking contest between 14-year-old Shelby “Bumblebee” Lee (Minster Gg),and 15-year-old
Holly Heffron from St Gerards. There was never much between them and after four and a half entertaining minutes Lee was declared a split decision winner.
