CONNOR IN CONTROL
Home club star uses sweet skills to keep aggressive Butler at bay
EARLSFIELD staged a good-value Sunday afternoon open show at their gym when the 14 bouts included a trio of elite three-threes, all won by the hosts.
Very tall lightweight Connor Marsden, a former London champion at 56 kgs, deservedly outpointed Mark Butler (Hillcrest), although it was only via split decision when there didn’t seem any doubt.
The rugged, aggressive Butler probably won the last when he forced the tiring Marsden to stand and trade, but by then the Earlsfield man was two rounds to the good courtesy of smart boxing as he moved around the ring and landed stinging right hands.
Alfie Winter, an unlucky loser in the London Intermediate championships earlier in the month, was too good for Samari Mckay, unanimously outpointing the Miguels man at light-welter.
And Simeon Hepburn, a longlimbed welterweight, used his height and reach advantages well to secure a unanimous win over come forward Marius Potop (Limehouse). Hepburn did particularly well with body punches.
