‘THUNDER’ SILENCED

-

Andy Whittle watches Mcloughlin return to winning ways FOR the second successive evening, referee Shaun Messer – who officiated throughout – presided over an opening contest which ended in the opening session. This bout was scheduled for four, as were all the others on this Joe Elfidh promotion at the North Notts Arena.

Lincoln’s Jordan Mcloughlin bounced back from a narrow defeat last time out by securing a victory over Andy “Thunder” Harris after just 119 seconds. A pair of clubbing rights and a follow-up left sent the Gloucester man over sideways in front of his own corner. The third man waved it off, despite Harris having risen.

Opening behind the jab, the taller Mcloughlin moved quickly onto the front foot and clattered his heavily tattooed opponent with an overhand right and a combination to the head. Jordan then slammed home a left which had Harris holding momentarily – the die had well and truly been cast.

All five of the night’s other contests ran their allotted distance, with not a point being dropped by the home boxers along the way. Islington’s Jules Phillips and Bognor Regis’ tall Callum Ide were the only away fighters who were credited with a share of a round. Phillips lost out to Sheffield stylist Hassan Ahmed, while Ide was defeated by well-supported Heanor debutant Jack Hutsby.

Doncaster’s Kyle Fox proved too much for Belarus visitor Andrei Hramyka who, despite regularly leaping forward in an attempt to land, saw his efforts more often than not fall short.

Two more matchups that finished 40-36 were those between Sheffield novice Sonny Price and Dewsbury’s Youssef Al Hamidi,

and Nottingham’s Omari Grant

and Blackburn’s busy Naheem Chaudhry. Al Hamidi stayed on the back foot and landed little in losing to Price, while Chaudhry finished with a badly bloodied nose after his defeat to Grant.

THE VERDICT After a break of nearly 70 years, Worksop is now hosting regular shows.
