FARRELL RETURNS TO WINNING WAYS

Chris Walker sees Tom bounce back

-

IT was a successful return for Liverpool’s Tom Farrell as topped Angel Emilov. Farrell impressed in the early going, but the Bulgarian made things rough by holding and hitting behind the head. He was deducted a point by ref Darren Sarginson, who scored 60-54.

There were several fighters making their debuts on this Steve Wood promoted show, and two of them squared off against each in a local derby. Liverpool’s Mick Gerrard and Gary Austin gave it their all as the former collected a 39-37 card from Steve Gray, while Nathan Quarless, also from Liverpool, won his debut (40-36, Sarginson) with a mature performance against the Czech Republic’s Jan Hrazdira.

Sarginson scored 40-36 for Tom Mcguiness against Reading’s Ibrar Riyaz, and it was also a shutout (6054, Gray) for his No Limits stablemate

Mike Mckay defeated Lithuania’s

Imantas Davidadis (40-36, Gray), and local Jay Farrell landed a left hook at 0-39 of the second which prompted Sarginson to rescue Czech,

Ivo Zedenick.

Three closely fought contests saw

Danny Roberts, Nathan Hardy, and Sean Cairns earn success. Isle of Man debutant Roberts caught the eye of Gray to win 39-37 against Bolton’s Chris Jenkinson. Sarginson scored 39-38 when giving the nod to both Hardy and Cairns. The latter, from Liverpool, defeated Kent’s Ricky Leach, and it was Old Colwyn’s Lee Quinn that fell short against Sheffield’s Hardy.

Liverpool’s Nathan Bennett routinely outscored Slovakia’s Rudolf Durica (40-36, Sarginson), but there was disappointment for the home crowd as Lloyd Campbell was outworked by Atherton’s William Warburton, going down 59-56 from Gray.

THE VERDICT Farrell moves on from loss to Ohara Davies.
