AT 34, Coventry’s Troy James faces an uncertain future after Henry Janes outpointed him over six on MTK’S show at a busy Alan Higgs Centre.
James was unhappy with referee-for-the-night Kevin Parker’s 58-56 verdict, but that looked a fair reading of the fight, with Troy winning the first and last rounds and the Welshman winning everything else. To the frustration of Coventry southpaw

David Seymour and Luke Beasley were also winners in front of their home crowd. Seymour boxed neatly to win every session of a good learning four-round fight with Latvia’s
Dmitrijs Gutmans, who landed enough rights to keep the local favourite honest and bloody his nose, and debutant Beasley didn’t have things all his own way either.
Lithuania’s Simas Volosinas made his knees dip with a right-hand counter in the first and bloodied his nose in the second. Beasley produced his best work from the third, once he had settled into the fight, and won all four rounds for Mr Parker.
Solihull’s Mitch Redmond came unstuck against Bulgaria’s Daniel Borisov, missing out 39-38 on Mr Parker’s scorecard after rallying from a torrid opening round, and Coventry ticket seller Michael Green won the fourround opener against Stourbridge veteran Kevin Mccauley. Bicester’s Scott James got his first win, grinding out a 39-38 points win over Lithuania’s game Zygimantas Butkevicius. THE VERDICT Upset in main event.
