WIN-WIN FOR ANDERSON

-

Fighter/promoter triumphs on his debut and puts on a successful show IT’S something of a rarity that a promoter should box on one of his own shows, but that was the case at Irlam and Cadishead Leisure Centre when Lancashire cruiserweight Jamie Anderson debuted against Dinnington’s Darren Snow. Anderson had his arm raised at the finish too, with referee Mark Lyson awarding him a 39-37 win at the end of a four-rounder.

Promoter Anderson, working alongside Gary Booth, wasn’t the only one dipping his toe in professional waters for the first time. Simon Haworth and Jamie Mitchell did likewise. Anderson’s stablemate Haworth, of Lymm, went in with Hyde’s Dale Arrowsmith and emerged with a 38-38 share of the spoils for Mr Lyson. Meanwhile, Mitchell took on Chatham’s comebacking Danny Shannon and won courtesy of a 30-27 technical decision after the bout – refereed by Phil Edwards – was halted at the end of the third with Shannon cut.

Gorton’s Lee Carter came a cropper in a scheduled four against Jiri Svacina. The man from the Czech Republic KO’D Svacina in the third of a contest refereed by Mr Lyson. It was Jiri’s first victory on UK soil in what was his 16th visit.

Looking to re-establish himself after consecutive English title setbacks, New Moston’s Chris Conwell faced Stockport’s experienced Jamie Quinn and duly picked up a victory over six. Referee Lyson scored it 58-56, with Quinn keeping it competitive.

There was a rematch between Stockport’s Jake Kelly and Hyde’s Mike Castell. Kelly had been a shutout winner when the pair clashed on their debuts in June. The heavier Kelly earned a secondround knockout (it was scheduled for four), with Mr Edwards refereeing.

Manchester’s Jake James made it two victories out of two by seeing off Brierley Hill’s still-winless MJ Hall. Mr Edwards tallied 40-36.

THE VERDICT A new promotional outfit puts on its first event at a new venue for boxing.
