Coach Terry Emberson will be remembered

THE funeral for boxing coach Terry Emberson was held in Stevenage on Friday (March 16). He died aged 79.

Emberson, who lived in Chepstow Close, Stevenage, worked at Stevenage Boxing Club for more than 18 years until his death in the Lister Hospital on March 1. He was very well-known in the world of amateur boxing, having previously coached for many years at Finchley boxing club and Islington boxing club, where the Terry Emberson Shield is awarded every year to a promising young amateur boxer.

Over his long career in boxing he coached many prizewinni­ng amateur boxers and won a Comet Community award in 2013.

He was married to Brenda for 54 years, and he leaves a large family of four children, Stephen, Terry, Jane and John, eight grandchild­ren and five greatgrand­children.
