HARINGEY UPDATE

New method for entering the Box Cup announced

-

THE ever-growing Haringey Box Cup tournament takes place later this year. There will be a new method to entering the competition. The club stated: “This year we have decided to make changes to the terms of entry. Instead of the frantic rush at 9am when the entry form goes live and creates a system meltdown, clubs will have a 24-hour window with which to apply for entry. From midnight on April 28, clubs will be able to download an application form from our website and return it back to us before the clock strikes 12 the following day. Clubs will then then be selected at random until we reach capacity and will then be sent a link to enter their boxers’ details and pay within a set time.

“We just cannot meet the demand of the number of boxers and clubs that wish to enter and feel this is the fairest way to resolve the situation. When the tournament first started in 2008, there were only two rings. The tournament has become so popular over the years that we now have five rings but cannot possibly squeeze in any more.

“We will try to accommodate as many clubs as possible and at least this way, you won’t have to set your alarm for the early hours only to be rejected at the final hurdle. Last year we were full within minutes.”

The club also held a fundraising dinner show on March 16, with Haringey boxers featuring in all 10 bouts. Sana Ullah (All Stars) stpd Antonio Yordanov (Haringey) 2nd, Shea Kappes (Five Star) outpd by Gabriel Wilozynski (Haringey) unan, Lily Devlin (Attleborough) outpd Claudia Wilmotsmith (Haringey) split, Colin Hallett (Double Jab) outpd by Armis Ballazhi (Haringey) unan, Ross Morrissey (Academy Luton) outpd by Denzel Greene (Haringey) unan, Ewan Jenkins (Islington) outpd Numan Hussain (Haringey) unan, Jem Cambell (Academy Luton) outpd by Deayandra Allen (Haringey) unan, Deevorn Miller (Double Jab) outpd by Ashley Simpson (Haringey) split, Charlie Davidson (Lowestoft) outpd Amy Andrew (Haringey) split, Ola Alausa (Double Jab) outpd Kingsley Okolie (Haringey) unan.
