Bursaries awarded to promising young boxers

-

POWERDAY, through their chairman Mick Crossan, have being supporting amateur boxing in recent years. They’ve awarded eight new bursaries this year to young boxers, to help them achieve their national and international targets.

Powerday want to make a positive contribution with this new raft of funding for developing boxers through their unique bursary scheme, now in its third year. These bursaries will assist eight aspiring young boxers from London, male and female, who have the ability to succeed in the sport at regional, national and international levels. With the standard of entrants has exceptionally high, this year’s bursaries have been awarded to eight applicants who are members of boxing clubs from London.

The boxers are Sameenah Toussaint of Northolt, Jon O’donnell of Hooks, Charlie Hickford of Body Shots, Jack Oliphant of Body Shots, Tariq Agius of Dagenham, Sasha Hockey of Fisher, Caroline Dubois of Repton and Keiron and Hayden Hughes of Islington.

Mick Crossan, the Powerday chairman stated, “Powerday, as a London-based company, are committed to making a positive difference to people’s lives through our work on a daily basis in the capital. This scheme is a further raft of our community engagement, seeking to help young people realise their potential, which through their clubs, provide them with so many positive messages and lessons for life. Hopefully some of these young people can aspire to go on to achieve excellence.”

Lenny Hagland, the chair of London Boxing, added, “Whilst there is a strong support mechanism at the top of high performance in British sport, it is the small margins that can make the difference to young aspiring boxers, and this scheme will offer some essential funding to those who are in need of further support to fulfil their potential and achieve international standard.

“We thank Mick Crossan and Powerday for this investment into our young athletes through their Powerday Development Programme.”
