60-SECOND INTERVIEW
‘DON’T BE IN IT FOR THE MONEY. BE IN IT FOR THE LOVE OF BOXING. THE MONEY WILL COME WITH SUCCESS’ Lenny Fuller
When and why you started boxing:
I walked through the doors of Westree ABC at 11 years old. I’ve never really been out of the gym since.
Favourite all-time fighter:
Canelo Alvarez for his sharp counters and great style, and Joe Calzaghe for his heart and entertainment value.
Best fight you’ve seen:
The Arturo Gatti-micky Ward trilogy – pure heart.
Personal career highlight:
Becoming a professional boxer. It beats all the titles I won on the unlicensed circuit.
Toughest opponent:
I’ve been sparring Luke Campbell recently, and believe me that’s no easy task!
Best and worst attributes as a boxer:
I’ve got a bad habit of switching off for a split second, but my coach [Lee Page] is helping me to avoid this. My main strength is that I can adapt to my opponent, as I can fight as well as box.
Training tip:
Be the hardest worker in the gym!
Favourite meal/restaurant:
I love the ribs and chicken at TGI Fridays.
Best friends in boxing:
Lee Eaton, an MTK representative; everyone down at the Peacock Gym; Ray Askew and Sam Latham from the Invicta Gym; my trainer, Lee Page; and finally my manager, Joe Elfidh. He always looks out for my best interests.
Other sportsman you would like to be:
I admire Anthony Joshua because everyone speaks highly of him and he’s the people’s champion.
‘I ADMIRE ANTHONY JOSHUA BECAUSE HE’S THE PEOPLE’S CHAMPION’
Last film/tv show you saw:
Rampage was the last film I watched, with my little boys.
Who would play you in a film of your life:
Brad Pitt. He was good as “One Punch” Mickey in Snatch!
Have you ever been starstruck:
Although I’ve met quite a few big names, I try not to get carried away. I’m going to become a big name myself, after all.
Last time you cried:
When my little boys were born – my best achievements yet!
Best advice received:
Don’t be in it for the money, be in it for the love of boxing. The money will come with the success.
Worst rumour about yourself:
Hopefully people don’t talk about me behind my back, but who knows?!
Something not many people know about you:
My favourite song is Girls Just Want to Have Fun, by Cyndi Lauper!
