The Camachos aren’t the only famous father-son relationship in boxing
1. FLOYD PATTERSON & TRACY HARRISON PATTERSON
Floyd Patterson, the former world heavyweight champion, adopted Tracy Harris when he was 14 years of age. He became WBC super-bantamweight champion in 1992.
2. JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ & JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JNR
One of the greatest fighters of all time, Julio Cesar Chavez secured multiple world titles in three weight divisions and won 87 fights in a row. Chavez Jnr, on the other hand, was a WBC champion at middleweight.
3. LEON SPINKS & CORY SPINKS
In 1978, Leon Spinks, having only his eighth pro fight, defeated Muhammad Ali to win the world heavyweight championship. Twenty-five years later, his son, Cory, became a world champion at welterweight and then repeated the trick at super-welterweight.
4. GUTY ESPADAS & GUTY ESPADAS JNR
The second father-son combo to win world titles, and the first duo who were blood-related, Guty Snr won the WBA flyweight title in 1976, while Guty Jr won a WBC title at featherweight in 2000.
5. WILFREDO VASQUEZ & WILFREDO VASQUEZ JNR
A Puerto Rican legend, Wilfredo Vasquez won world titles as a bantamweight, super-bantamweight and featherweight. His son didn’t quite scale the same heights but still managed to claim a WBO superbantamweight title in 2010.
6. FLOYD MAYWEATHER & FLOYD MAYWEATHER JNR
Floyd Mayweather never boxed for a world title but was good enough to share a ring with Ray Leonard and Marlon Starling. His son is the richest fighter in the sport’s history and arguably one of its most gifted.
7. WILLIAM DOUGLAS & JAMES ‘BUSTER’ DOUGLAS
Buster Douglas is best-known for shocking the world and upsetting Mike Tyson in 1990. His father, William, competed against the likes of Victor Galindez, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Marvin Johnson and Bennie Briscoe.
8. CHRIS EUBANK & CHRIS EUBANK JNR
Chris Eubank is a British legend and won WBO titles at middle and super-middle. His son remains a contender at 168lbs after some solid form in the division below.
9. JOE FRAZIER & MARVIS FRAZIER
Joe Frazier paved the way for Marvis, a heavyweight fringe contender most famous for being knocked out inside a round by Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson.
10. TONY MUNDINE & ANTHONY MUNDINE
Tony Mundine held the Commonwealth middleweight and light-heavyweight titles and challenged Carlos Monzon in 1974 for the world middleweight title. Anthony Mundine, however, lifted the WBA supermiddleweight title in 2003.
