PROBLEMATIC
Adrien Broner is as well-known for his issues outside of the ring as his achievements inside it
1. BOWLING BRAWL
In January 2016, Broner allegedly knocked a man unconscious and robbed him outside a bowling alley. The charges, however, were later dropped.
2. NO CHOKE
Broner was cited for misdemeanour battery at a Las Vegas nightclub after allegedly choking a waitress in 2016. He denied the wrongdoing and avoided arrest but was handed a citation to later appear in court.
3. BULLETPROOF
Broner was stopped by police in 2017 after crossing into Kentucky in a bullet-riddled Chevrolet Suburban. Cincinnati police linked the vehicle to reports of shots fired around West Mcmicken Avenue and West Mcmillan Avenue, and Broner said someone had followed him from a bar and shot at him. He was not injured.
4. TOILET HUMOUR
In 2013, Broner videoed himself flushing a wad of $20 bills down a restaurant toilet.
5. FOOL MART
Still obsessed with money, Broner, in 2016, was caught on camera throwing change in the air at the front of a queue in Walmart. “I’m AB, I don’t need no change,” he said.
6. PILLOW TALK
You can’t be an infamous social media star these days without a sex tape, and Broner is no different. The woman filmed in his company was so ashamed by the association that she attempted to sue him.
7. COCKROACH
There are no signs of Broner’s acid tongue relenting. His latest misstep concerns Freddie Roach, the Parkinson’s-afflicted co-trainer of Manny Pacquiao, about whom he said, “I’m happy you’re bringing Freddie back, so we can get this thing shaking.”
8. PAULIE’S GIRL
One of many unsavoury promotional tools used ahead of Broner’s 2013 fight with Paulie Malignaggi centred on an old flame of Malignaggi whom Broner claimed to have stolen. After the fight, he then boasted, “I’m good. I beat Paulie and left with his belt and his girl.”
9. THE CAN MAN
Not content with beating Mexico’s Carlos Molina, Broner, in a post-fight interview on Showtime, took it upon himself to make it a racial matter. “I’m The Can Man,” he said. “Anybody can get it: Afri-cans… I just beat the f**k out of a Mexi-can.”
10. MAIDANA HUMP
Despite being frustrated and then humbled by Marcos Maidana in 2013, Broner was still somehow able to do what he does best – cause controversy – by pretending to dry-hump the Argentine at the end of round one.
