LATEST VENTURE

Tommy Dix is highly impressed with Birkenhead Venture’s most recent show

-

BIRKENHEAD Venture ABC held their annual show at the Bibby Centre on January 26. This had it all and the sportsmanship of the capacity house was a credit to boxing. Venture’s Justin Beacan edged out Tower Hill’s Louis Pennington in a hard-hitting bout, with both boxing as if their lives depended on the outcome. Justin worked well behind his jab, throwing nice combinations. However Louis was up to it and was only too willing to join in at close quarters. This contest seesawed from one to the other with the decision going to Beacan.

In another win for Venture Sonny Allinson scored a split verdict over Terry Spencer’s Leon Williams in a give-and-take contest. At times both went for

broke and it became a war of attrition. Just when one seemed to gain control, the other would storm back. They threw hard combinations off their jabs and showed good skills, while setting a fantastic pace. The crowd were on their feet as they punched it out at the final bell.

Venture’s Kieran Mooney won a tight verdict over Bradley Broadbent in a bout that had everything; precise punching, sound defence. Both scored with eye-catching combinations with Kieran just having the edge. Mooney received the Best Boxer of the show award but Bradley Broadbent is a someone who can go a long way.

Venture’s Tom Musker won against Derry’s James Westbury.

Musker’s boxing skills came to the fore but James valiantly stuck to his task.

Salisbury’s Adam Smith defeated Venture’s Callum Day in another cracker. Once more a very tight verdict.

Wild Card’s Ethan Tyson beat Venture’s Matthew Barclay in another humdinger. A Schools contest saw Leon Burns defeat Sefton’s Harley Robinson. Connel Farrell of Venture won a fine bout against Croxteth’s Lucas Turner, both showing poise and skill well above their years.

Sean Trodden deserves credit for such wonderful match-making. The quality of the Skills bouts on the show too displayed how Merseyside boxing is in a good place indeed.
