HOW WILL YOU REMEMBER THE CAREER OF JAMES DEGALE?
Declan Warrington
Boxing journalist
With admiration. He fought George Groves at a time when so many would have waited until reaching worldlevel and became our first Olympic champion to win a world title, which he both fought for and defended on the road. He earned well, which represents a significant success.
Tey Lynn-jones
Southern Area champion
He won the Olympic gold medal and was the first Brit to back it up with world title. He’s been in some great fights, shown his quality, and is a top personality outside of the ring. Personally, I will remember all the sparring sessions I was fortunate enough to share with him.
Andy Clarke
Boxing commentator
As one that broke new ground. Before him, no British fighter had ever won an Olympic gold and gone on to become a world champ. When you’re the first to do something, that distinction remains yours forever. It’s something he should be very proud of.
Miles Shinkwin
English titlist
Because a lot of his fights away from home and his two most notable fights here in the UK were losses to Groves and now Eubank Jnr, I think that takes the shine off his vast accomplishments. Most fighters, myself included, wouldn’t mind his career, though.
