LADIES’ NIGHT
The spotlight falls on the females in the heart of Fife
THREE of the evening’s four bouts were contested by females on the Steven Mcguire promotion at the Gilvenbank Hotel. Local
Eftychia Kathopouli had lost out narrowly over six-twos to Rachel Ball at the conclusion of a bloody, barnstorming war in Walsall in July, but she never looked like being bested here by Lithuanian Vaida
Masiokaite, whose only loss in three had come at the hands of Elaine Greenan in Aberdeen in November. The visitor’s loss back then had been to the tune of 40-36 over fourtwos, and that score was replicated once more here. Cause for celebration then for Eftychia, who returned to winning ways at the first attempt.
Greenan, born in Monaghan, Ireland, but now operating out of Livingston, had banked shutouts over four-twos in her last two outings and she was a winner over the same distance here, consigning Poland’s Bojana
Libiszewska to a 13th consecutive defeat. Libiszewska did, however, connect with a sufficient amount to earn one round, the card at the finish reading 39-37. Four-time Scottish
amateur champion Emma Mcculloch, from just a few miles down the road in Lochgelly, made her pro bow over fourtwos against Bulgarian Teodora
Hristova.
Mcculloch duly notched a 40-36 success. The only male contest on the bill pitched John Mccallum in against Northern Ireland’s Casey
Blair (Bangor) in an all-celtic affair which was only ever going one way. True to form, it was the man from Galashiels – having only his second outing since October 2016 and currently boxing out of Guildford under the tutelage of new trainer John Edwards – who claimed the spoils. Mccallum dominated to finish a 40-35 winner. The inset photo shows Mccallum [on the

THE VERDICT Kathopouli gets back in the win column.
