This Girl Can Box event brings in international rivals
A BIG day of women’s boxing was held at Berinsfield boxing club. The centrepiece of the action saw an Italian Select team pitted against a This Girl Can Box Select team.
The prize for best bout of the day was awarded to Amy Andrew
(This Girl Can Box) and Bianca Voglina (Italian Select), with Voglina outscoring Andrew by split decision.
The prize for best boxer also went to Giordana Sorrentino,
who unanimously outpointed Nina Smith-hughes.
The whole February 23 show, supported by a host of contests between different clubs, was the biggest This Girl Can Box event so far. It was organised by Terri Kelly and many others, all to provide further competitive opportunities for female boxers. Amy Andrew emphasised the importance of the event, saying, “There’s nothing for grassroots women’s boxing at the moment so it’s helping it progress and helping people have opportunities to progress that they wouldn’t otherwise have.
“There’s so many young girls who are coming up and honestly they’re incredible and this is the kind of thing that means they stay the gym.
