THE WRIGHT STUFF
Philip Sharkey is ringside as Connor claims a shutout victory
SOUTHPAW Connor Wright topped Mervyn Turner’s bill at the Corn Exchange and ran out a 60-54 victor. Barcelona-nicaraguan
Geiboord Omier, always at a disadvantage with height and reach, must have been thankful that the Milton Keynes estate agent didn’t bring uppercuts into play, as this punch might have paid dividends, instead of punching down and sacrificing power. However, Omier took a steady beating and did well to last the distance.
The fight of the night, and in the opinion of MC Mike Goodall and referee-for-the-evening Lee Cook, the best female four-twos they have witnessed, saw Dani Hodges (Burntwood) win a war with Stevenage stylist Lauren
Parker. After an all-action start where Parker picked up a nasty bump on her forehead following a clash of heads, Hodges’ aggression won the day by 39-37. Parker, though, took the third when she used stiff jabs to stave off her attacker, leaving Hodges with claret leaking from her right eye.
Norwich journeyman Duane Green may not be blessed with Nathan Graham’s fast hands, but he had success in the second round, pinning the Aylesbury man on the ropes. However, Graham was always one move ahead. Punching with venom, he prevailed 40-37.
Elsewhere, well-supported Bedfordalbanian Ermal Dida saw off Miguel
Aguilar by 40-36. It got messy at the end as the Barcelona-based Nicaraguan tired.
Marsham’s Iain Martell, having seen his scheduled bout in Norwich the previous evening fall through, took out his frustration on Bristol’s last-minute sub Phil Williams. Earlier, there was a perfunctory victory for Greenwich’s Diamond Oginni over southpaw
Edward Bjorklund (Lewisham via Sweden). Both of these contests finished 40-36.
