BOLTON OCTOBER 19 ★★★ WHOLE SHOW

HEYWOOD’S Lee Clayton met the alwaysactive Lewisham-based Swede Edward

Bjorklund on a show that consisted of six four-threes at the Last Drop Village Hotel.

Clayton stayed tight, boxing his way in behind his constant southpaw jab before bringing his straight left into play. It was no surprise, therefore, that referee Darren Sarginson turned in a routine 40-36 card for Clayton, leaving the busy Bjorklund free to face Liam Gaynor next week and Louis Norman the week after that.

Colwyn Bay’s Gerome Warburton sent the ever-reliable Victor Edagha back to Southwark with another loss after referee Jamie Kirkpatrick adjudged him a clear 40-36 winner. Meanwhile, Ben Thomas enjoyed a return to winning ways following draws against Harry Matthews and Darryl Sharp. The Boltonian narrowly beat Sussex’s Callum Ide by 39-38 on Sarginson’s card.

Failsworth’s Jake Bulger remains undefeated after a close win over Telford’s tough Dean Jones. Mr Kirkpatrick handed Bulger the win by a single round, scoring it 39-38 after a give-and-take fight in which both men targeted the body effectively.

Sion Yaxley headed back to Ruthin with a 40-36 victory over Bolton’s Chris Jenkinson. He kept Jenkinson backed up with his jab throughout. Sarginson turned in an inevitable win based on this dominance behind boxing’s bread-and-butter punch.

Manchester-based Czech John Ardon enjoyed an impressive start to his pro career. The relaxed southpaw beat Welshman

Spencer Thomas by a 40-36 margin for Kirkpatrick. Thomas has faced a debutant in every one of his pro fights thus far, but has been unable to replicate the form that earned him a draw when turning over himself against Derek Renfrew in June last year.
