Volunteers wanted for once-in-a-lifetime abseiling adventure

-

ANDREW FAIRLEY, the BN contributor and all-round good guy, is recruiting a team for an abseiling mission to raise money for Ringside Charitable Trust.

Fairley, who organised the successful Boxers’ Skydive in 2019, is now putting together a team that will abseil down the 170-metre Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

Current volunteers include former fighters Tony Oakey and Jason Lepre, as well as welterweight Jumaane Camero, super-featherweight Jeff Ofori, Sweden’s Lucy Wildheart and lightweight Dave Birmingham.

Fairley, who will also be taking part with young fundraising star Sophie Gallagher, is looking or volunteers who would also like to take the (safe and steady) plunge in May next year.

The cost per person is £100, and that must be covered by the volunteer to ensure that all money raised can go to Ringside and their residential home for ex-boxers.

“I intend to start fundraising in January when everyone has got Christmas out of their system,” said Fairley.

“The actual event will take place in May. Our initial target will be to raise £5,000 but hopefully, if we can get enough interest, we can beat that and then some!”

The 170 metres is nothing to Fairley and co.

In June last year, Fairley, Camero, Ofori, Wildheart and Birmingham all jumped out of a plane at 15,000 feet and skydived above Salisbury Plain.

Over £5,000 was raised back then.

The Ringside team would also like to let anyone know who was planning to take part in the latest fantasy fights competition [see

page 47], that the deadline for entry has been extended until January 11, 2021.
