The first large international tournament, the World Youth championships, begins in Poland

-

THE World Youth championships began on April 13 in Poland. Under the challenging circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, AIBA have waived the host fee for the tournament for the Polish Boxing Federation, granting them half a million Swiss Francs to go towards additional costs caused by coronavirus. “It is our mission to support our national federations, especially the ones who took responsibility to host major events in these difficult pandemic times. I am sure that the board of directors took right decision to support Poland and exceptionally waive the host fee. The LOC and Polish Boxing Federation did a lot for this tournament to make it happen despite all matters. We are looking forward to seeing the first boxing World championships after the pandemic began,” AIBA President Umar Kremlev said.

England weren’t able to send Youth teams to these World championships due to the current the environment.

AIBA have awarded the 2023 men’s World championships to Uzbekistan, the country that was the powerhouse of Rio 2016’s Olympic boxing tournament. The AIBA board of directors voted in favour of the event going to Tashkent.

“Uzbekistan is one of the most active members of the international boxing association, we have a rich boxing history. We are proud of our athletes and their victories. We are going to strengthen our cooperation with AIBA in the popularization of boxing in our region and all around the globe. We have discussed the creation of an education centre for coaches and R&JS here in Tashkent,” said Rustam Shaabdurakhmonov, chair of the national Olympic committee.
