Will Hale from ringside sees a second first-round win for rebuilding Cutler
BOURNEMOUTH’S Lee Cutler scored a clinical opening-round stoppage win over Croatian Frane Radnic in a scheduled sixthrees heading a Steve Bendall-promoted show at Southampton’s Central Hall.
Cutler started brightly with fast feet and an excellent use of feints to take the initiative and nibble away at the distance. Third man Lee Every waved matters off at 2-47 when Lee connected with a perfectly placed left hook to the midriff, which sank the visitor to his knees, clearly unable to rise.
Poole’s Caleb Johnson took a four-threes 39-37 win over Bulgarian unit Kristian
Kirilov on Every’s tally. It was a scrappy affair with too much mauling and holding. But Caleb’s work had more quality, particularly with his long, straight shots.
Southampton’s Morgan Sellamutru overcame tough Solvakian Michal Gazdik to win his own paid bow over a hard-fought six-threes, 59-55 on Kieran Mccann’s card. The visitor pushed the hometown fighter hard over the distance, but Morgan’s amateur pedigree and intelligent movement allowed him to contain his determined and compact opponent.
Dorset’s Sammy Davis impressively launched his professional campaign as he floored Hungarian Joni Mate twice before Lee Every waved off the scheduled four-threes at 2-44 of the opener. The first knockdown came courtesy of a straight left down the pipe. He maintained the pressure well and closed the show with a sicking left hook to the body.
Finally Bournemouth’s Gemma Ruegg became the latest member of her established fighting clan to make her debut as a BBBOFC licence holder as she took a six-twos shut out over Slovakian Claudia Ferenczi on Mccann’s slate. Ruegg, mother of unbeaten lightweight Mace Ruegg, was aggressive throughout and had success with scything hooks and uppercuts.
